They want to save Madrid’s Prado museum, a museum Picasso is the honorary director of. With the help of Picasso’s friend, Hemingway, they remove the artworks from the museum at night and transfer them to a safe place out of Madrid, so the German soldiers couldn’t find them. On the way back to Paris, they witness the bombing of Guernica. This incident has a deep impact on Picasso and makes him create his masterpiece.
